The Parish Choir

Highly regarded as one of the outstanding all-volunteer choirs in the Pittsburgh Diocese, the Parish Choir at St. Bernard embraces high standards presenting a wide-ranging repertoire. Under the direction of Chaz Bowers since 2014, the choir has performed choral literature including Gregorian chant, polyphonic motets, large Romantic choral works, and modern compositions with enthusiasm and distinction.

From September through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the choir sings each Sunday at the 11:00 A.M. Mass along with additional liturgical celebrations throughout the year. It also joins with other choral groups and orchestras to present special concert events.

Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings in Clairvaux Hall, from 7:00-9:00 P.M. We are always eager to welcome new members!

The Children’s Choir and Cherub Choir

The Children’s Choir and Cherub Choir give children the opportunity to experience the joy of prayer through song. Youngsters learn to read and interpret music, employ appropriate vocal techniques, and understand the liturgy the music serves while developing a life-long appreciation of the music of their faith.

The Children’s Choir, for students in Grades 3-8, sings, on average, twice a month at the 9:00 A.M. Sunday Mass from October through Easter. Rehearsals are held Thursday afternoons from 3:00-4:00 P.M. for St. Bernard students and 4:00-5:00 P.M. for public school students.

The Cherub Choir, for students in Grades K-2, prepare to sing for one of the Christmas Eve Masses with three rehearsals in December. Rehearsals are held Saturday afternoons from 1:00-1:45 P.M.

Please use a separate form for each child you are registering, and be sure to check which session your child will be attending.

The Children’s Handbell Choir, new to St. Bernard this year, meets on Thursday afternoons from 5:00-5:50 P.M. in the servers’ side sacristy in the upper church. Ringers will play at a number of liturgies throughout the year.

We also welcome children who play a musical instrument to join in the Children’s Music Ministry. Rehearsal and performance dates will be set based on response.
